Sabato il Rettore Boas Erez ha parlato al folto pubblico in aula magna del valore del discorso universitario e dell'importanza di ascoltare la voce delle diverse componenti dell'ateneo. La prolusione è stata affidata allo storico David Abulafia.
È emersa la volontà congiunta di cogliere tre sfide della nostra epoca: interconnessione globale, diversità, elaborazione e trasmissione della cultura. Si proporrebbe quindi di modificare il nome in “Facoltà di comunicazione, cultura e società”.
Facoltà di scienze informatiche agli onori: il dottorato honoris causa è stato conferito al giovane professore di Computer Science Shriram Krishnamurthi e il Credit Suisse Award for best teaching a Mehdi Jazayeri.
Il prestigioso premio internazionale gli sarà consegnato in autunno a Lugano "per le innovative scoperte nel campo delle metodologie di simulazione delle dinamiche molecolari e i relativi studi sui sistemi chimici, materiali e biomolecolari".
Il Premio Balzan 2013 per la sociologia terrà la lezione "The Crisis of the Liberal Democracy from Brexit to Trump and Beyond" lunedì 22 maggio alle ore 18.00 in aula A11 sul campus di Lugano. Prenotazione obbligatoria.

Sabato 20 maggio, alle 15.00 nell'aula magna del campus di Mendrisio, 140 studenti ricostruiranno uno scheletro di Ittiosauro, predatore ticinese vissuto 250 milioni di anni fa, assemblando 280 ossa costruite con 120.000 cubetti in legno.
