L’USI punta sulla “scienza dei dati”

Le nostre società producono quotidianamente una mole di dati incalcolabile, un'opportunità che necessita di nuovi strumenti di gestione e interpretazione sviluppati grazie al campo di studio della Data Science. In questo settore l'USI punta a sviluppare un filone di ricerca originale, grazie alla fondazione del nuovo Istituto Interdisciplinare di Data Science. L'obiettivo è diventare un punto di riferimento per le solide competenze già presenti, in modo che possano combinarsi sviluppando un progetto di importanza strategica per la crescita e lo sviluppo dell'Università.

Sul campus di Lugano le giornate di donazione del sangue

Tornano all'USI, in collaborazione con il Servizio Trasfusionale CRS della Svizzera italiana, le giornate dedicate alla donazione del sangue. L'appuntamento è per mercoledì 15 aprile (11.00-16.00) e giovedì 16 (10.30-14.30) nell'aula 351 del campus di Lugano. Per donare occorre aver compiuto i 18 anni, pesare più di 50 kg, essere in buona salute e presentarsi allo stand con un documento, non a digiuno. I buoni motivi per compiere questo gesto semplice e veloce sono molti, in questo video studenti, professori e collaboratori ce ne indicano alcuni.

Si è aperta in Giordania la seconda edizione del Master of Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Operations and Supply Chain Management

Si sta svolgendo ad Amman in Giordania la seconda edizione del MASHOM, il Master dell'USI dedicato ai professionisti nel campo umanitario. I partecipanti, provenienti dalla International Organization for Migration (IOM), dalle Forze di Pace delle Nazioni Unite (UNPF), e dall’Aga Khan Foundation, stanno studiando la gestione dei processi attraverso l’utilizzo del Lean Six Sigma, sotto la guida dei professori Paulo Gonçalves e Uday Apte. Al termine delle ulteriori cinque sessioni ad Amman i partecipanti torneranno a Lugano per difendere le loro tesi e laurearsi.

Il cyberspazio e la nuova pirateria nel web

Un workshop e un aperitivo per capire come difendere il proprio marchio dai rischi del web. Questo il tema dei prossimi appuntamenti del programma CTI Entrepreneurship, organizzati da USI, SUPSI e  Centro Promozione Start-up in collaborazione con lo studio legale Jacobacci & Partners. Mercoledì 22 aprile dalle 15 alle 17 si terrà il workshop presso la SUPSI, stabile di Manno, a seguire dalle 18.30 l'apero al Parco Maraini di Lugano. Per partecipare è necessario iscriversi tramite il modulo di registrazione entro il 15 aprile.

Un nuovo sito per l'EJO

Nelle scorse settimane è stato lanciato il nuovo sito dell'Osservatorio europeo di giornalismo della Facoltà di scienze della comunicazione. La nuova homepage permette di valorizzare al meglio i contenuti, arricchiti dalla neonata sezione "brevi", che dedica quotidianamente spazio ad articoli sintetici. Il nuovo layout si adatta inoltre ad ogni tipo di dispositivo, facilitando la lettura anche su smartphone e tablet. Maggiore attenzione anche alla connessione con le piattaforme social grazie a nuove opportunità di condivisione.

La nuova associazione di coordinamento per il mondo accademico svizzero

Swissuniversities è la nuova associazione che raggruppa le tre precedentemente separate conferenze dei rettori CRUS (università), KFH (scuole universitarie professionali) e COHEP (alte scuole pedagogiche). Questo nuovo organo, di cui l’USI fa naturalmente parte, ha l'obiettivo di rafforzare e sviluppare le collaborazioni all’interno del mondo accademico svizzero, permettendo di parlare con un'unica voce sia a livello nazionale che internazionale. Con la nascita della nuova associazione scompare il vecchio marchio swissuniversity.ch, che lascia il posto al logo di swissuniversities su tutti i canali USI. USI Eyes the “Science of Data”

Every day our societies produce a vast, ever-growing amount of data. These data represent a unique opportunity for social and scientific progress, but they require new tools to improve their management, analysis and interpretation. This is the research area of Data Science. The key objective is to become a reference point where various skills and different approaches can convene and be combined through strategic interdisciplinary research projects, for further development of our University.

Blood Donation Days are back on Lugano Campus

Blood donation days are back at USI in cooperation with the Swiss Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15th (11am – 4pm) and Thursday, April 16th (10.30am – 2.30pm) in room 351 on Lugano Campus. All donors must be older than 18, be in good health, and weigh more than 50Kg. Everyone interested can show up at the welcome desk with a photo ID on a full stomach. There are plenty of reasons to donate blood. A few are mentioned by our students, teachers and staff in this short video.

The New Master of Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Operations and Supply Chain Managment Kicks Off in Jordan

The second MASHOM, USI's Master dedicated to humanitarian professionals, is currently taking place in Amman (Jordan). Under the guidance of professors Paulo Gonçalves and Uday Apte, members from three major humanitarian organisations (International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNPF and the (AKF) Aga Khan Foundation) are learning how to improve and better manage processes using Lean Six Sigma. Participants will attend 5 further sessions in Amman before coming to Lugano to defend their thesis and graduate.

Cyberspace and New Web Piracy

A workshop and business apero with focus on intellectual property safeguard and defense. This is the theme that will be tackled during the next encounters of the programme CTI Entrepreneurship, organised by USI, SUPSI and the Start-up Promotion Centre in cooperation with the legal firm Jacobacci & Partners. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd from 3pm to 5pm at SUPSI in Manno, following at 6.30pm an apero will be given at Parco Maraini in Lugano. Registration is required by April 15th.

A new Site for EJO

The new site of the European Journalism Observatory of the Faculty of Communication Sciences has been lauched during the past weeks. The new homepage is designed to add leverage to the content also thanks to the new daily column “short stories” dedicated to news in brief. The new layout works on any device for easy reading access on smartphone and tablet. Greater attention also goes to the interaction with social networks thanks to new sharing tools.

The New Umbrella Organisation for the Swiss Academic World

Swissuniversities is the new association formed by the union of the three previous rector conferences CRU (University) KFH (universities of applied sciences) and COHEP (universities of teacher education). This new entity, of which USI is a natural member, works at strengthening and enhancing cooperation, enabling the Swiss academic world to speak with one voice on both national and international level.
