Giovedì 26 febbraio alle 17.30 nell’auditorio del campus di Lugano si terrà la lezione inaugurale del professore ordinario della Facoltà di scienze informatiche Kai Hormann, le cui ricerche si concentrano sui fondamenti matematici degli algoritmi geometrici e la loro applicazione nella grafica digitale e i relativi ambiti. L'appuntamento, aperto al pubblico e in lingua inglese, si inserisce nel ciclo di lezioni inaugurali dell’Università con lo scopo di presentare i nuovi professori ed offrire alla cittadinanza una vera lezione accademica.

USI Career Forum 2015

Si avvicina l'appuntamento con il Career Forum 2015, in programma venerdì 6 marzo nell'Aula magna del campus di Lugano. L'annuale occasione di incontro tra oltre 60 aziende e gli studenti e laureati USI che si affacciano sul mondo del lavoro, presenta alcune interessanti novità. Tra di esse la prima edizione dell’USI Career Speed Dating, una simulazione grazie alla quale verificare le proprie capacità di presentarsi dal punto di vista professionale, attraverso una serie di brevi colloqui con i responsabili delle risorse umane. Spazio anche ai consueti incontri individuali e alle presentazioni.

Un master, e poi?

L'appuntamento di lunedì 2 marzo alle 18:00 nell’auditorio del campus di Lugano è organizzato dall’associazione L’Universo, il “Giornale Universitario Studentesco Indipendente” della Svizzera italiana. Alla discussione prenderanno parte – oltre a diversi alumni dell’USI ed ex-redattori del mensile – Antonio Loprieno (Presidente della Camera delle Università di Swissuniversities – ex CRUS), Piero Martinoli (Presidente dell’USI) e Giovanni Barone Adesi (direttore dell’Istituto di finanza dell’USI). Modera il direttore del Corriere del Ticino Giancarlo Dillena.

Due team di studenti dell'USI vincono il Nespresso Academic Sustainability Challenge Swiss Edition

Presentato dal prof. Peter Seele nell'ambito del corso di etica della comunicazione, il concorso promosso dalla multinazionale ha l'obiettivo di creare, a partire dai progetti degli studenti, soluzioni sostenibili per il mantenimento della qualità del caffè Nespresso in relazione alle condizioni di vita e lavoro nelle piantagioni di tutto il mondo. Le due squadre di studenti del Master in Corporate Communication parteciperanno ora alla competizione internazionale.

«Ad Achille si addicono le rose»: danza e performance in Italia

Stasera, lunedì 23 febbraio alle 18.00 nell'Aula magna del campus di Lugano il docente dell’ISI Stefano Tomassini terrà una lezione in occasione della piattaforma di danza dedicata da LuganoInScena alla coreografia contemporanea italiana. Un’occasione per presentare al pubblico, anche di non esperti e con l’ausilio di filmati, l’esperienza della danza contemporanea italiana a partire dagli anni ottanta del Novecento.

Cosa fare e chi contattare in caso di emergenza sul campus di Lugano

In caso di emergenza sul campus di Lugano è attivo 24 ore su 24 il numero 058 666 4730 (dai telefoni fissi del campus è sufficiente digitare il 4730). Dalle 7.00 alle 17.00 rispondono gli addetti della logistica, mentre dalle 17.00 alle 7.00, per coprire la fascia notturna, è attivo il Servizio sicurezza. Gli addetti del Servizio sicurezza vi forniranno una prima e tempestiva assistenza (maggiori informazioni su come comportarsi in diverse situazioni quali ad esempio incendi, incidenti, episodi di violenza sul campus o malori).

Riprendono le attività del coro USI Voices

I componenti del coro dell'università USI Voices si incontreranno questa sera, lunedì 23 febbraio, alle 19.30 in aula 354, per riprendere le attività, concentrate in questo semestre su un repertorio di canzoni pop, rock e musical. Al termine del primo incontro un'aperitivo sarà l'occasione per accogliere i nuovi partecipanti. USI Voices è aperta a uomini e donne di tutte le età, a prescindere dalla loro abilità vocale. Per partecipare basta presentarsi alla serata o inviare una email all’indirizzo usivoices@usi.ch.

From Coordinates to Cartoons

Kai Hormann research interests focus on the mathematical foundations of geometry processing algorithms as well as their application in computer graphics and related fields. As full professor of the Faculty of Informatics, he will hold his inaugural lecture on Thursday, February 26th at 5.30pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus. The encounter open to the public will be held in English as part of the series of inaugural lectures, with the aim of introducing new professors and offering the experience of a true academic lesson to the public.

USI Career Forum 2015

The Career Forum 2015 approaches and it is scheduled for Friday, March 6th in the Aula Magna of Lugano Campus. The annual encounter, now introducing some interesting news, is the perfect chance for all USI’s students and graduates entering the business world to meet with over 60 companies. Part of the new initiatives is the USI Career Speed Dating, a simulation to test professional introductory skills through a series of brief interviews with HR staff. The event will also feature the usual individual meetings and presentations.

What will happen after your Master?

The encounter will be held on Monday, March 2nd at 6pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus and is organised by the Association L’Universo: the independent student newspaper of the Italian speaking area of Switzerland. Several guest alumni and former editors of the newspaper will be joining the discussion as well as Antonio Loprieno (President of the Rector’s Conference of Swissuniversities – former CRUS), Piero Martinoli (USI President), and Giovanni Barone Adesi (director of USI’s Institute of Finance). Giancarlo Dillena, editor in chief of the Corriere del Ticino will act as moderator.

The Nespresso Academic Sustainability Challenge Swiss Edition won by two USI teams

Presented by prof. Peter Seele within the course in Communication Ethics, the challenge is promoted by the multinational corporation with the aim of creating sustainable solutions thanks to the student’s projects, to protect the future of the quality of Nespresso coffees in relation to living and working conditions in plantations worldwide. The two student teams from the Master in Corporate Communication will now access the international challenge.

ISI’s lecturer Stefano Tomassini will hold an encounter within the dance platform dedicated by LuganoInScena to contemporary Italian coreography. The event taking place tonight, Monday, February 23rd at 6pm in the Aula Magna will introduce with the aid of videos, the experience of Italian contemporary dance starting from the ‘80s, to a general audience.

What to do and who to call in case of emergency on Lugano Campus

In case of emergency the number 058 666 4730 (from campus phones dial 4730) is active 24/7 on Lugano Campus. From 7am to 5pm the staff of the Logistics Service will answer your calls, whereas from 5pm to 7am the USI’s Security Service will cover the night shift. The people in charge of security are trained to provide first aid interventions (more information on how to act in case of emergency such as fire, accidents, violence on campus or injuries and sickness).

USI Voices Activities Resume

The members of the University choir USI Voices will meet tonight, Monday, February 23rd at 7.30pm in room 354 to resume their activities, which for this semester will feature songs from musicals, rock and pop tunes. A cocktail reception will welcome new members after this first encounter. USI Voices is open to men and women of all ages regardless of their singing skills.
