Al via una serie di conferenze sulla Computational social science

L’agire umano nel mondo contemporaneo è caratterizzato da tracce digitali attraverso le quali è possibile delineare un profilo dettagliato del nostro comportamento. Le enormi potenzialità della Computational social science, che intreccia scienze computazionali e sociali, saranno oggetto di una serie di conferenze pubbliche all'USI, che vedranno protagonisti otto tra i principali esperti a livello internazionale. Coordinati dal prof. Alessandro Lomi della Facoltà di scienze economiche, gli appuntamenti inizieranno lunedì 16 dicembre alle 17:00 in aula 250 (campus di Lugano) con l'intervento del prof. Santo Fortunato della Aalto University in Finlandia.

L'USI ponte culturale nell'analisi economica del diritto

Su iniziativa dell’Istituto di Diritto (IDUSI) e della Cattedra “Brenno Galli” di analisi economica del diritto, il campus di Lugano ospiterà il 12 e 13 dicembre il IX convegno annuale della Società Italiana di Diritto ed Economia (SIDE). L’obiettivo della conferenza, che coinvolgerà circa 120 studiosi provenienti da oltre 20 paesi diversi, è rafforzare i rapporti tra i centri di ricerca internazionali sul tema dell’analisi economica del diritto e promuovere lo sviluppo di studi e dibattiti in tale ambito.

Presentando i ritmi di crescita e di progressione più marcati a livello globale, il mercato turistico cinese offre un potenziale enorme per il settore turistico. All’analisi approfondita del mercato dei turisti cinesi diretti all’estero è dedicato il secondo rapporto dell’O-Tur (Istituto di ricerche economiche) relativo ai mercati di provenienza del turismo in Ticino.

Il Principe e il Principe Cristiano: dialogo su Machiavelli ed Erasmo

Martedì 17 dicembre alle 17:30 nell’auditorio del campus di Lugano si terrà una serata di riflessione sul pensiero di Niccolò Machiavelli. Carlo Ossola (direttore dell’Istituto di studi italiani) e Maurizio Viroli (Istituto di comunicazione pubblica) analizzeranno il rapporto tra il Principe di Machiavelli e il Principe Cristiano di Erasmo, partendo dall'interrogativo se sia ancora sostenibile la tesi che vuole il principe di Machiavelli come figura anticristiana, mentre quello di Erasmo prima uomo cristiano e poi sovrano.

L’USI adotta una nuovo tipo di carta riciclata bianca

Nelle prossime settimane sarà introdotta all'USI una nuova carta aziendale: un prodotto garantito dai migliori certificati ecologici, 100% a base di carta bianca riciclata. Senza fare sconti sull'ecologia, quindi, il nostro ateneo grazie alle ultime evoluzioni del mercato introduce una carta bianca, che al contempo offre una nuova linearità su tutti i tipi di prodotti stampati. Il cambiamento avverrà in maniera progressiva nel corso delle prossime settimane, man mano che le scorte della vecchia carta saranno esaurite.

Per l'USI una raccolta coi baffi!

La rete USI attiva nel contesto della campagna internazionale Movember, composta dal team Mo-USI e dall’associazione L'USTi, ha raccolto oltre 2'800 CHF (ben 800 in più dell’obiettivo iniziale), che saranno destinati a progetti di ricerca contro il cancro alla prostata e ai testicoli. La rete USI si è così posizionata all’8° posto su 18. È ancora possibile effettuare donazioni a favore della squadra per la tutta giornata di oggi, mentre si è chiuso il concorso fotografico che ha aggiudicato il titolo di 'Baffo d’Oro' alla foto a lato. Launch of a Conference Series on Computational social Science

Human actions in today's world are characterised by digital traces through which it is possible to draw a detailed profile of our behaviour. The enormous potential of Computational social science, which links computational and social sciences, will be discussed during a series of public conferences at USI. The events will be coordinated by Prof. Alessandro Lomi of the Faculty of Economics, and they will bring to Lugano Campus eight of the worldwide leading protagonists in this research area. The series will be launched on Monday, 16 December, at 5pm, in room 250 (Lugano Campus), with a lecture by Prof. Santo Fortunato of the Aalto University in Finland.

USI as a cultural Bridge in the economic Analysis of Law

On the initiative of USI’s Law Institute (IDUSI) and the “Brenno Galli” Chair for economic analysis of law, the IX annual conference of the Italian Society of Law and Economics (ISLE) will be held on Lugano Campus, on 12 and 13 December. Around 120 researchers coming from over 20 different countries will be involved in the conference that aims at strengthening ties between international research centres regarding the topic of economic analysis of law, and at promoting the development of studies and debates in this field.

The second O-Tur (Institute for Economic Research) report on markets of origin for Ticino’s tourism is dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the Chinese outbound tourism market.

The Prince and the Christian Prince: Machiavelli and Erasmo

Next Tuesday, 17 December, at 5.30pm, in the auditorium of Lugano Campus, an evening will be dedicated to a reflection on Niccolò Machiavelli's thinking. Carlo Ossola (director of the Institute of Italian Studies) and Maurizio Viroli (Institute of Public Communication) will analyse the relation between Machiavelli's Prince and Erasmo's Christian Prince. They will be guided by the question of whether the interpretation of Machiavelli's prince as an antichristian figure and of Erasmo's protagonist as first a Christian and then a sovereign man, is still tenable.

USI adopts a new Type of white recycled Paper

In the following weeks, a new corporate paper will be introduced at USI: a product that has received the best ecological certificates, 100% based on recycled paper. Without causing harm to the environment, our University goes back to white paper, benefiting from the latest developments in this market. This will also give a new conformity to all types of printed products at USI. The change will occur progressively during the following weeks, until the reserves of the old paper will be exhausted.

Successful Fundraising for USI's Movember Group: thanks to everyone!

USI’s Movember network, composed of the Mo-USI team and the association L’USTi, has collected more than CHF 2,800 for the international campaign (CHF 800 more than what had been its initial objective). The money will be used for research against testicular and prostate cancer. Thus, USI’s network positions itself on place 8 out of 18. We remind you that it is still possible today to make donations for our team. The photo contest, in turn, has been concluded, awarding the “Golden Moustache” title to the picture on the left.
