Nuovi arrivi nella comunità accademica

Inizia un nuovo anno accademico e l'USI dà il benvenuto a tutte le matricole e a cinque nuovi professori. A settembre inizieranno la propria attività di professori di ruolo in progettazione architettonica all'Accademia Grafton Architects (Yvonne Farrell e Shelley McNamara). Ad ottobre entrerà in carica Raphaël Parchet quale professore-assistente di economia regionale, mentre a gennaio inizieranno la loro attività Jean-Patrick Villeneuve come professore-assistente di comunicazione pubblica e Robert Soulé in qualità di professore-assistente di informatica. A tutti gli altri, il nostro più caloroso ben ritrovati.

Cambio al vertice per tre Facoltà

Il prof. Rico Maggi, da quattro anni al timone della Facoltà di scienze economiche, passa il testimone al prof. François Degeorge dell’Istituto di Finanza. Il prof. Mauro Pezzè, alla guida della Facoltà di scienze informatiche da quattro anni, lascia il posto a Michele Lanza, professore di visualizzazione ed evoluzione del software. A Mario Botta succede il prof. Marc Collomb in qualità di Direttore dell’Accademia di architettura. >>>

Al via il ciclo sul Purgatorio, mentre su iTunesU si scatena l'Inferno

Tornano le letture pubbliche della Commedia di Dante Alighieri a cura dell’ISI: mercoledì 18 settembre la dantista francese Jacqueline Risset, autrice di una traduzione di riferimento del poema dantesco, darà avvio al ciclo Lectura Dantis II, dedicato al Purgatorio. L’appuntamento è alle ore 18.00 presso l’auditorio del campus di Lugano. È possibile rivedere i 13 appuntamenti con l’Inferno dello scorso anno accademico scaricandoli da iTunesU. >>>

Timber Project

L'esposizione presenta la ricerca più recente nel campo delle costruzioni in legno. Il progetto - che si sviluppa a cavallo tra diverse discipline quali l'ingegneria civile, l'architettura, la matematica e l'informatica - propone soluzioni innovative e sostenibili. L'inaugurazione si terrà giovedì 19 settembre alle 19.00 nella Galleria dell'Accademia, campus di Mendrisio. >>>

Per festeggiare i suoi 50 anni di attività lo Zonta Club Lugano mette a concorso alcune borse di studio riservate a studenti ticinesi e confederati domiciliati in Ticino o stranieri in possesso di un permesso di domicilio (“C”) in Ticino. Leadership e motivazione: verità sorprendenti

La 15° edizione della EMScom Excellence-in-communications Lecture si terrà il 31 ottobre a Zurigo nella sede della FIFA. Il prof. Gianluca Carnabuci illustrerà recenti evidenze sperimentali ed empiriche che mostrano come il rapporto tra incentivi economici, motivazione e leadership sia meno diretto di quanto pensino la maggior parte dei manager e dei responsabili delle risorse umane. New Arrivals at the academic Community

A new academic year begins and USI welcomes all freshmen and five new professors. In September, Grafton Architects (Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara) will start their teaching activities as Full Professors in Architectural Design at the Academy. In October, Raphaël Parchet will take office as an assistant professor in regional economics, whereas starting from January, Jean-Patrick Villeneuve and Robert Soulé will be at USI as assistant professors in public communication and in informatics respectively. To all the others, our warmest welcome back!

Changes at the Top of three Faculties

Prof. Rico Maggi, who has been leading the Faculty of Economics for four years, hands his office over to Prof. François Degeorge from the Institute of Finance. Prof. Mauro Pezzè, head of the Faculty of Informatics for the last four years, leaves his position to Michele Lanza, professor of software visualization and evolution. Mario Botta is followed by Prof. Marc Collomb as Director of the Academy of Architecture. >>>

Launch of the Series on the Purgatorio, while on iTunesU the Inferno breaks loose

Comeback of the public lectures of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy organised by USI: on Wednesday, 18 September, the French Dante scholar Jacqueline Risset, author of a reference translation of Dante’s poem, will launch the new series Lectura Dantis II, dedicated to the Purgatorio. The public lecture will be held at 6pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus. It is also possible to review the 13 lectures on Inferno from the last academic year by downloading them on iTunesU. >>>

The exhibition presents the latest research in the field of wooden construction. The project – which emerges at the intersection of various disciplines such as civil engineering, architecture, mathematics and informatics – suggests innovative and sustainable solutions. The inauguration will be held on Thursday, 19 September, at 7pm in the Academy Gallery on Mendrisio Campus. >>>

To celebrate its 50-year existence, the Zonta Club Lugano will award scholarships to students from Ticino, to Swiss students residing in Ticino, or to foreigners with a residence permit (“C”). Applications have to be submitted by 15 November, 2013. >>>

Leadership and Motivation: surprising truths

The 15th EMScom Excellence-in-communications Lecture will be held in Zurich, at the headquarters of FIFA, on 31 October. Prof. Gianluca Carnabuci will discuss recent experimental and empirical evidence to argue that the relationship between monetary incentives, motivation and leadership, is less straightforward than most managers and HR systems assume.
