	TECNOLOGIE DELLA COMUNICAZIONE AL SERVIZIO DEL TURISMO SOSTENIBILE
	Cattedra UNESCO all'USI La Cattedra in "Tecnologie dell'informazione e della comunicazione per lo sviluppo e la promozione del turismo sostenibile nei siti del patrimonio mondiale" sarà diretta dal Decano della Facoltà di scienze della comunicazione, prof. Lorenzo Cantoni. L’obiettivo è quello di sostenere nella propria comunicazione online i siti scelti come patrimonio mondiale dell’umanità, soprattutto nei paesi in via di sviluppo, grazie ad attività di ricerca e formazione. 	Autonomia e coesione perché i fiori diventino frutti La cerimonia è stata l'occasione per riflettere sul presente e sul futuro dell'USI. Il Presidente Piero Martinoli ha aperto la cerimonia con un saluto, cui hanno fatto seguito gli interventi del Direttore dell'Accademia di architettura Mario Botta, del Segretario di Stato Mauro Dell'Ambrogio e della dott.ssa Federica Sallusto dell'IRB. Sono stati quindi consegnati il dottorato honoris causa a Mimmo Jodice, uno dei grandi nomi della fotografia italiana, e il CS Award for Best Teaching al prof. 	FACOLTÀ DI SCIENZE INFORMATICHE
	Workshop speciale in onore della prof. Mariagiovanna Sami Per rendere omaggio al lavoro condotto dalla professoressa Sami l'Istituto ALaRI propone un workshop dal titolo Key Challenges in Embedded Systems, che si terrà giovedì 16 maggio sul campus di Lugano e che riunirà alcuni tra i più grandi esperti di sistemi embebbed a livello internazionale. Dopo aver partecipato alla fondazione dell'Istituto insieme al prof. Luigi Dadda, la professoressa Sami lascia il testimone della direzione al prof. Miroslaw Malek. Per saperne di più.
	OSSERVATORIO DEL TURISMO DELL'IRE (O-TUR)
	Stefano Scagnolari nuovo responsabile dell'O-Tur Il Dr. Stefano Scagnolari, ricercatore post-doc presso l'Istituto di Ricerche economiche (IRE), dal 1° maggio ha assunto la funzione di responsabile dell'Osservatorio del Turismo. O-Tur ha come primo obiettivo l'approfondimento e la divulgazione della conoscenza del settore turistico cantonale, grazie all'osservazione sistematica e all'analisi, con metodi quantitativi e qualitativi, della domanda turistica e dell'offerta locale nelle destinazioni ticinesi. 	*A Elena Marchiori e Lorenzo Cantoni il Best Paper Award* della TTRA Europe Conference 2013** La conferenza internazionale sulle nuove frontiere del turismo ha premiato un lavoro svolto nel contesto delle ricerche del webatelier.net (Facoltà di scienze della comunicazione), che analizza come gli utenti individuino quelli che ritengono l'argomento e il sentimento dominanti su una pagina social media, valutando quali caratteristiche della pagina colpiscano maggiormente l'attenzione e traendone spunti utili per la promozione online delle destinazioni turistiche. 	Venture Ideas: un evento di introduzione al mondo imprenditoriale Nel quadro del programma di formazione federale CTI Entrepreneurship, l'evento si propone di dare modo ai partecipanti di conoscere gli strumenti a sostegno dell'imprenditorialità esistenti in Ticino e nel resto della Svizzera, come pure di ascoltare delle testimonianze di giovani imprenditori. 	COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES AT THE SERVICE OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
	UNESCO Chair at USI Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, will direct of the Chair in "Information Technologies and Communication for the Development and Promotion of Sustainable Tourism in World heritage Sites". The aim is to support the online communication of the world heritage sites, especially the ones in developing countries, through research and training. More information.
	XVII DIES ACADEMICUS
	From Flowers to Fruits thanks to Autonomy and Cohesion The ceremony has been an opportunity for reflection on the present and future of USI. The President Piero Martinoli opened the ceremony with an address, which was followed by speeches delivered by the Director of the Academy of Architecture Mario Botta, State Secretary Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, and Doctor Federica Sallusto of IRB. The PhD. Honoris Causa has been conferred to Mimmo Jodice, a renowned name in Italian photography. The CS Award for Best Teaching has been assigned to prof. Cesare Pautasso of the Faculty of Informatics. More information.
	FACULTY OF INFORMATICS
	Special Workshop in honor of Prof. Mariagiovanna Sami To pay tribute to the work conducted by Professor Sami, the Institute ALaRI offers a workshop entitled Key Challenges in Embedded Systems, which will be held on Thursday, 16 May on Lugano Campus. The encounter will bring together some of the greatest experts in embedded systems on an international level. After taking part in the foundation of the Institute together with prof. Luigi Dadda, the director Professor Sami, passes the baton to prof. Miroslaw Malek. More information.
	IRE'S OBSERVATORY OF TOURISM (O-TUR)
	Stefano Scagnolari is the new person in charge of O-Tur Dr. Stefano Scagnolari, researcher and post-doc at the Institute for Economic Research (IRE), has taken over since 1 May as manager of the Observatory of Tourism. O-Tur aims at increasing and disseminating knowledge of the tourism industry of the Canton, by means of systematic observation and analysis of Ticino's tourism demand and local supply, through the application of qualitative and quantitative methods. 	AWARDS
	The TTRA European Conference 2013 Best Paper Award to Elena Marchiori and Lorenzo Cantoni The international conference on tourism's new frontiers has awarded a research carried out by USI's Faculty of Communication Sciences webatelier.net. The project analyses how users identify the prevailing topic and feeling of a social media page, evaluating what features captures the attention and drawing useful insights for online promotion of tourist destinations. 	ENTREPRENEURSHIP
	Venture Ideas: an introduction to the entrepreneurial world The event held in the framework of the federal training programme CTI Entrepreneurship aims at sharing with the participants all the tools available in Ticino and Switzerland to support entrepreneurship, as well as sharing testimonies of young entrepreneurs. 	LIFE ON CAMPUS
	CASH lands at USI Ten minutes, ten questions, a prize of a thousand Swiss Francs cash: the Quiz on the road by RSI will make a stop on the Mendrisio Campus on Monday, 13 May. Starting from late morning Clarissa Tami and her partners in crime will venture the University halls looking for couples of students, professors and staff to challenge them.
