| |  | AWARDS The best works of 2010
The prestigious Swiss architecture and design magazine Hochparterre has granted this year's prize for the best works in architecture, design and landscape. Two architects who teach at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio were recognized with awards: The Miller & Maranta studio in Basel, directed by Quintus Miller, was awarded the
silver metal for architecture (Silberner Hase Architektur) for the elegant Old Hospice of St. Gotthard (Vecchio Ospizio del San Gottardo). The bronze for the best architectural work (Bronzer Hase Architektur) in turn went to Valerio Olgiati for the monumental Entrata del Palazzo del Gran Consiglio a Coira. All awarded projects will be on display until January 9th, 2011, at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich. The magazine has dedicated

GRADUATION CEREMONY
Master of Advanced Studies in Intercultural Communication (MIC) Prof. Georg Kreis, President of the Federal Commission against Racism, delivered his address, entitled, "L’intégration en Suisse: entre multiculturalisme et affirmation identitaire"
to the graduates of the fourth edition of MIC (Master of Advanced Studies in Intercultural Communication). The event took place this past Saturday on the Lugano Campus. The Master programme, supported by SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and
Cooperation, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs), is dedicated to all professionals who manage multicultural situations at an operational level. There are 21 graduates of this edition, hailing from 16 different countries. More information.

LECTURE
USI at the Swiss Institute Rome, Milan - Immigration politics and rhetorical
wars On December 16th, at 6pm, at the Milan offices of the Swiss Institute Rome, the public lecture entitled, “Impacts of the European economic crisis on immigration policy and security: political, social and economic challenges" will be delivered by Ivan Ureta Vaquero, senior researcher at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies and Fellow at Middle East and Mediterranean Studies of King’s College London. His lecture will address a crucial topic for contemporary society, caught between, on the one hand, the willingness to integrate, and on the other, the need to preserve a socio-economic equilibrium. WORKSHOP Digital copyrights in education In the context of the DICE project (Digital Copyrights for eLearning), eLab offers a workshop on "Copyright in education" this Thursday,
December 16, from 1.30 to 6pm in Room 354 (Lugano Campus). The workshop is addressed to all the people who face the issue of copyright in educational settings, in particular to professors, teachers, teaching assistants, and librarians of USI, SUPSI and other educational institutions. Goal of the workshop is to present the basics of Swiss copyright and a simple methodology to solve real cases that can be faced in educational settings; participants' questions will be addressed.

Photo contest. For its tenth anniversary, Gender Service invites you to participate to the photo contest, "Portraits of women and men
between career and family" (Ritratti di donne e uomini fra carriera e famiglia), open to all USI community. The photo contest aims to gather pictures that cast light on features associated with equal opportunities and gender equality directly observed in the public sphere and in the workplaces, or in family and private life, to reflect on issues of gender roles and gender representativeness. The best photo receives an award of CHF 500.-. More information.
