Mario Botta Awarded with the 2015 BSI Centenario Foundation Prize
The Centenario Foundation of BSI awarded architect Mario Botta for his broad and diversified work in the field of architecture, his international influence, and his contribution in the establishment of USI’s Academy of Architecture where the Maestro from Ticino still teaches. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 20th at 6pm in the Aula Magna of Lugano Campus; the prize will be conferred by Marco Baggiolini, president of the Foundation and USI’s honorary president.
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ECONOMIC POLICY
A new study programme of the Faculty of Economics
Starting from the academic year 2015/2016 USI expands its offer of the Faculty of Economics with the Master of Science in Economic Policy. The two-year programme aims at training students in economic policy, teaching them how to tackle the complex issues of global economy. The future graduates will be equipped with the skills to operate in international institutions, central banks and in the higher spheres of public administration by learning the quantitative methods and the analytical tools necessary for a successful career as professional economist with a strong policy orientation.

MASHLM graduate awarded with the 2014 best thesis in humanitarian logistics
MASHLM graduate Silvia Uneddu has been awarded a first prize for the best master thesis in Humanitarian Logistics by the
Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Research Institute at the Hanken School of Economics in Finland. The USI’s Master is dedicated to professionals in the field of humanitarian management and logistics. Our student’s work focuses on supply chain optimization of the distribution of mosquito nets in the Ivory Coast and aims at reducing costs of UNICEF’s anti malaria campaign.

The Dynamics of Illegality. Data and simulations
The third encounter of the series Data and Society: opportunities and concerns will be held on Tuesday, May 19th at 6pm in the Auditorium of Lugano Campus. Promoted by the Interdisciplinary Institute of Data Science, the lecture will be held by Rosaria Conte, director of the Laboratory of Agent-Based Social Simulation of the
Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies at CNR in Rome. During the encounter it will be shown how science and the new social simulation technologies can provide very useful tools against illegal systems.
START-UP PROMOTION CENTRE
A day of reflection on social enterprise
"The social enterprise as the driver for social innovation” is the title of the study day that will be held on Tuesday, May 19th in the Aula Magna of SUPSI campus in Trevano. The encounter is organised by the Start-up promotion centre USI-SUPSI in cooperation with prof. Paulo Gonçalves and Luca Crivelli, of
USI’s Faculty of Economics together with Sara Grignoli of the Canton’s Department of Health and Social relations. The event represents the perfect chance to reflect on the importance of social enterprises and to foster their development in Ticino.
GERMAN CULTURE AND WRITING
Writers Yoko Tawada and Ilma Rakusa at USI
This year, two extremely talented writers will hold a lecture in German for USI’s course in German culture and writing. The Japanese-German writer Yoko Tawada will hold her lecture on Wednesday, May 20th from 1.30pm in room A21 of Lugano Campus. The next lecture will also be held in room A21 by the Swiss writer Ilma Rukusa on Wednesday, May 27th at 2pm. USI Voices Spring Concert
The spring semester closing concert of the University Choir USI Voices will be held on Wednesday, May20th in room 354 of Lugano Campus from 8.30pm. After a welcome cocktail, the vocal ensemble will perform its repertoire of pop and modern rock songs accompanied by Stefano Amitrano on the piano. To follow, the band Free Beer will perform acoustic pop and rock songs.
