STUDENT MOBILITY FOR STUDY PURPOSES IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR
USI takes a stand on the European Commission decision to exclude Switzerland out of Erasmus+
Following the decision of the European Commission to leave out Switzerland from the programme Erasmus+ for the academic year 2014-2015, USI confirms that it will provide financial aid to both outgoing students and incoming students hailing from different European partner universities. The aid will be granted even without the support of the Confederation. Application submitted to the International Relations and Study Abroad
Office will remain valid, and over the coming weeks students will receive more detailed information on the exchange.
EXHIBIT OPENING AT THE ACADEMY OF ARCHITECTURE
2000m above all Things Human: history, variety and purpose of alpine huts
The exhibition of the cultural association "Cantieri d’alta
quota" lands in Mendrisio with a look specifically tailored for the
occasion, together with the History of the Alps Study Centre. It is a first attempt to bring back tales on the shelters’ design by analysing the reasons behind their construction, the techniques and building materials and the role of the designers, all in the framework of general historic events and social evolutions. The opening will take place on Tuesday, 11 March at 7pm in the Academy Gallery and will remain open until 4 April.

Internet, a killer or an opportunity? How information changes in the digital age
Ezio Mauro (editor in chief of La Repubblica), Maurizio Canetta (chief of the information department and designated director of RSI) and Marcello Foa (director of the publishing group TImedia) will provide an all-round insight about the future of journalism and information, tomorrow Tuesday, 11 March 6.15 pm in the RSI Studio 2 Lugano-Besso. This encounter kicks off a new series of six public evening lectures and
two academic seminars on journalism and old and new media entitled "That’s the press baby!".
Awareness Week of the Italian speaking part of Switzerland kicks off
worldwide initiative Brain Awarness Week will also be held in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland with different lectures, exhibits and a medical symposium (programme and partners of the initiative). Concerning USI, the encounter Trapianto di testa, fra scienza, etica e fantascienza will be held on Friday,14 March at 8.30pm in the Auditorium by the neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero and psychiatrist Graziano Martignoni. Among many of the Ideatorio’s activities, it is the exhibit Sensorium: una palestra per i nostri sensi which will be showing in Ascona from 14 March until 17 April.

SwissEngineering Ticino 2014 Awards
The Ticino's branch of the Swiss networks of engineers and architects awarded the prize dedicated to USI students to Abdul Wahed Mehran (Bachelor) e Mina Shehata (Master). The ceremony was held at the Academy of Architecture in the presence of Monica Gianelli Bertino, Swiss Engineering Ticino’s President, and national councilors Ignazio Cassis and Marco Romano (ceremony photo gallery).
HARLEY-DAVIDSON CLUB TICINO (H-DCT)
Scholarships awarded on Friday to Elisa Coen and Thomas Odermatt
The two honoured students have been selected by a committee
based on merit: Elisa Coen for her achievements in the Bachelor of Italian language, literature and culture and Thomas Odermatt for his accomplishments in the Bachelor of Economics. The two yearly scholarships of CHF 4,000.- are in support of young USI
students from Ticino. The funds were raised by the Club thanks to the solidarity of members, sponsors and proceeds from the motorcyclist meeting that H-DCT organizes every August in Piazza Grande in Locarno (ceremony photo gallery).
